LG 420g Review « Pbushx2's Weblog
The appearance, as I pointed out earlier, is much like the LG 600g. It’s basic black all around with a rounded corners and a glossy finish on the outside of the clamshell. The inside is also very basic, with black all over, including the keys. The only chrome on the phone is a ring around the camera lens and also around the directional pad.
Branding on this phone includes a white printed LG logo on the front of the exterior and an stamped in the plastic but colorless LG logo on the back battery cover. Inside you’ll see a silver LG logo above the main display and the TracFone concentric circle logo below the display. Overall, it looks pretty basic compared to the various smartphones that are proliferating these days.
The external display measures about one inch diagonally, and displays the time, date, signal meter, battery meter, new message icon, bluetooth status (when bluetooth is on), and alarm indicator (when in use). In addition, you can also read incoming text messages on the external screen, and what is apparently a glitch in the software allows you to read these incoming messages without having any airtime deducted, but only if you open them using the external screen.
The LG 420g seems to be pretty solid and well-made. The hinge feels durable. The glossy finish and rounded corners allow it easy to get in and out of your pocket. I’ve been using the Samsung t401g for most of the last year, and the 420g is so much smaller, lighter and sleeker by comparison that it feels a lot more comfortable to carry.
General Phone Function So far I’ve been very happy with the signal reception on this model. It seems to do a little better than my Samsung t401g, and is definitely stronger than the Net10 Motorola EM 326g. Call quality is also very good. In my opinion, the audio sounded clearer than that of any Samsung T-series phones for TracFone or Net10, and about the same as other LG models for these prepaid brands. The audio falls short of the Motorolas available for TracFone, though. I would rate the Motorola w376g a “10” out of 10, and the LG 420g an “8.”

Hey! This is also a very nice phone for the junior members of the crowd. I've had one for a little less than a year and it's been absolutely magic. The only reservation I have regarding the phone is the reaction time for the camera to 'wake up'. Other than that it's been a deceptively good upgrade for a really small handset fee.
